Sustainability
ESG can help organizations trun their sustainability policies and goals into reality -- creating a vibrant economy while protecting the environment and ensuring a quality of life for people and communities. ESG offers a sustainability assessment tool, SCORE (Sustainabiity Competency & Opportunity Rating & Evaluation), that can help you determine where your organization is on the road to sustainabiity.
Environmental Management
An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a systematic approach for environmental improvement, built on principles of continuous improvement and action. Private sector companies and public agencies have benefitted from the Plan-Do-Check-Act management paradigm. The international standard, ISO 14001, serves as a guideline; ESG adapts the management system to the size, goals and operation of each organization.
Pollution Prevention
Pollution prevention is the reduction or elimination of pollution at the source instead of at the end-of-the-pipe or stack -- when raw materials, water, energy and other resources are utilized more efficiently, when less harmful substances are substituted for hazardous ones, and when toxic substances are eliminated from the production process. By reducing the use and production of hazardous substances, and by operating more efficiently we protect human health, strengthen our economic well-being, and preserve the environment.
Communication and Training
The implementation of any program is incomplete without the communication of the program’s policies, procedures, and practices. Whether dealing with internal training programs or external public information programs, the principles of effective communication rely on thoughtful planning and execution. ESG offers a simple but effective model for communication and training.
